ऋषय ऊचुः द्वैपायनेन यत् प्रोक्तं पुराणं परमर्षिणा सुरैर् ब्रह्मर्षिभिश् चैव श्रुत्वा यद् अभिपूजितम्
ṛṣaya ūcuḥ dvaipāyanena yat proktaṃ purāṇaṃ paramarṣiṇā surair brahmarṣibhiś caiva śrutvā yad abhipūjitam
“The Rishis replied that the Purana first promulgated by the great Rishi Dvaipayana is a sacred work possessing subtle meanings and gleaned from the Vedas, and they declared their desire to hear that history, the holy Bharata, as cheerfully recited by Vaisampayana at Janamejaya's snake-sacrifice.
