bhāratasyetihāsasya puṇyāṃ granthārthasaṃyutām saṃskāropagatāṃ brāhmīṃ nānāśāstropabṛṃhitām
“The Rishis replied that the Purana first promulgated by the great Rishi Dvaipayana is a sacred work possessing subtle meanings and gleaned from the Vedas, and they declared their desire to hear that history, the holy Bharata, as cheerfully recited by Vaisampayana at Janamejaya's snake-sacrifice.
