विधातृविहितं मार्गं न कश् चिद् अतिवर्तते कालमूलम् इदं सर्वं भावाभावौ सुखासुखे
vidhātṛvihitaṃ mārgaṃ na kaś cid ativartate kālamūlam idaṃ sarvaṃ bhāvābhāvau sukhāsukhe
“Sanjaya reminds the king that he is versed in the Sastras, intelligent and wise, and that they never sink under misfortunes whose understandings are guided by the Sastras; no one can avert by his wisdom the decrees of fate, and it is unbecoming to grieve for what must happen. (trans. K.M. Ganguli)”
