mātror abhyupapattiś ca dharmopaniṣadaṃ prati dharmasya vāyoḥ śakrasya devayoś ca tathāśvinoḥ tato dharmopaniṣadaṃ bhūtvā bhartuḥ priyā pṛthā dharmānilendrāṃs tābhiḥ sājuhāva sutavāñchayā taddattopaniṣan mādrī cāśvināv ājuhāva ca jātāḥ pārthās tataḥ sarve kuntyā mādryāś ca mantrataḥ teṣu jāteṣu sarveṣu pāṇḍaveṣu mahātmasu mādryā tu saha saṃgamya ṛṣiśāpaprabhāvataḥ mṛtaḥ pāṇḍur mahāpuṇye śataśṛṅge mahāgirau

“Pandu, after subduing many countries by his wisdom and prowess, took up his abode with the Munis in a forest as a sportsman, where he brought a severe misfortune on himself by killing a stag coupling with its mate; the mothers, that the ordinances of the law might be fulfilled, admitted as substitutes the gods Dharma, Vayu, Sakra and the twin Aswins, and the Pandavas were born, after which Pandu died on the holy mountain.
