नातिप्रीतमनाश् चासीद् विवादांश् चान्वमोदत द्यूतादीन् अनयान् घोरान् प्रवृद्धांश् चाप्य् उपैक्षत
nātiprītamanāś cāsīd vivādāṃś cānvamodata dyūtādīn anayān ghorān pravṛddhāṃś cāpy upaikṣata
“Dhritarashtra, out of affection for his son, gave his consent to their playing at dice; though Vasudeva became exceedingly wroth, he did nothing to prevent the disputes, and in spite of Vidura, Bhishma, Drona and Kripa the Kshatriyas were made to kill each other in the terrific war that ensued; hearing of the success of the Pandavas, Dhritarashtra pondered and addressed Sanjaya.
