वृद्धं माम् अभ्यसूयन्ति पुत्रा मन्युपरायणाः अहं त्व् अचक्षुः कार्पण्यात् पुत्रप्रीत्या सहामि तत् मुह्यन्तं चानुमुह्यामि दुर्योधनम् अचेतनम्
vṛddhaṃ mām abhyasūyanti putrā manyuparāyaṇāḥ ahaṃ tv acakṣuḥ kārpaṇyāt putraprītyā sahāmi tat muhyantaṃ cānumuhyāmi duryodhanam acetanam
“Dhritarashtra told Sanjaya that his inclination was never to war, that he made no distinction between his own children and the children of Pandu, and that only through paternal affection did he bear with the thoughtless Duryodhana, who, unable to overcome the Pandavas, concerted an unfair game at dice with the king of Gandhara.
